HOLISTIC & HOMEMADE: BEAUTY PRODUCTS

After an unfortunate allergic reaction to a Keihl's sample that left my face looking like I broke out into hives, I became more aware not only of what I put in my body, but what I put on it. Over the last year I have been swapping my more "mainstream" beauty products for natural ones, some stuck and some definitely did not (there is NOTHING that can replace a nars lipstick). What I put on my face has now become more serious than ever. Being forced to take benedryl from a moisturizer was telling of how these products are made: without decipherable ingredients. I couldn't even figure out what in the product made me sick! So, I resort to my own homemade concoctions to do the trick. And, well...they do a pretty good job.

MOISTURIZING GLOW MASK:
1T raw honey
1t coconut oil
Few drops Tea Tree Oil
**Apply to face and let sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing.

EXFOLIATING BODY SCRUB:
1/4c organic sea salt
3-4 drops lavender essential oil
1/4c olive oil
**Use as exfoliant for your whole body. (keep away from face)

EXFOLIATING FACIAL SCRUB:
1t raw honey
3-4 drops Tea Tree Oil
1-2 drops Bergamot essential oil
1t orange or lemon zest
3-4T Sea Salt
**Gently exfoliate in small circles for 1-2 minutes, and rinse. Be sure to moisturize after any exfoliation. Use no more than twice a week.

PURIFYING FACE MASK:
1T Red clay (I use NOW's Moroccan Red Clay)
1t Water
2-3 drops tea tree oil
**Apply to face and let sit until clay has dried, then wash off with warm water.

DETOXIFYING HAIR TREATMENT:
1T lemon juice
1/2t Tea tree oil
Warm coconut oil
**Massage into scalp and let sit for 3-5 minutes before shampoo/conditioner.

DANDRUFF-REDUCING HAIR MASK:
2t Apple cider vinegar
1t Lemon juice
Few drops tea tree oil
**Massage scalp and leave on for 20-30 minutes before shampoo/conditioner. Do twice a month.

****sub raw honey for banana or avocado, if you please***

Wow, what great recipes for natural face products. I am always careful of what I put on my skin too. The more I eat natural then more everything in my life I want to be natural.

That's unfortunate about your reaction.
I've been thinking of using organic/natural products, as I am so careful of what I put in my body, but when it comes to my skin I use all of the chemically stuff.
I really want to try making a few of these!

I love making my own beauty masks. I have sensitive skin and I always breakout from chemicals. I also switched to mostly all natural makeup and beauty products, I am just not comfortable with putting something on myself that I wouldn't want to digest. Thanks for the recipes, I hope all is well!

Well, I have been in the beauty business for 20+ years and I have NEVER had an allergic reaction until I used a Moroccan Red Clay mask. I look like I have poison ivy hives all over my face, neck and chest. Awful, red, raised, weeping, itchy and painful. DISASTER. So much for 'organics.'
